A year ago, I had the privilege of putting my jewelry in a local craft store and boutique on consignment. It was a lot of work upfront - I had to provide the display,
jewelry,
jewelry bags and price tags.
This is my original display. Jewelry looks best on a black background. Velvet gives it a touch of class. I got the frame at a thrift store, and put in the velvet in the back. The jewelry was hung on pins. The jewelry bags were placed in a photo box, which I later realized was not a good display. The box hides the cute bags.
The boutique area of this local shop is full of colorful handmade items. As I looked at my display in the store, I realized that it just kind of got lost among all the cute things. I needed to come up with something that would grab customers eyes and draw them in. The craft store (Pebbles in My Pocket) sales mostly scrapbooking and paper crafting supplies. I realized that my displays needed to appeal to the type of customer in this store. I needed to incorporate scrapbooking into my displays.
I decided not to do necklaces and jewelry bags this time around. But I included leather anklets with the earrings and bracelets. I made a separate display for each type of jewelry so that they could be spread out among the boutique area.
Bracelets
Above is a photo progression of the steps taken to display the bracelets. You can read about the creative process of turning the white platter to a pink platter on
this post of my blog. I LOVE the way this turned out. The bracelets are still displayed on black velvet, but the honeysuckle pink catches your eye. The DIY pedestals are all the rage right now.
Earrings
For the earring display, I picked up an 8x10 piece of unfinished wood from the craft store, along with the wooded flower embellishments. I glued the flowers on and primed the wood in white. Then spray painted it pink. I sanded it for the shabby chic boutique look. Applied the vinyl and put in small nails to hang the earring cards from. The easel I had was an antiqued copper, so I spray painted it silver, to match the sterling used in my jewelry.
Anklets
I forgot to take a before picture of this display. While at a thrift store, I found what I believe was a mug rack (cost $1.50). I forgot to take a before picture, it was originally, forest green on the bottom and natural wood on the posts and support. I added the flower, primed it, painted it pink, sanded it and made the display cards.
I am very pleased with the way all of these turned out, and interested to see if the more appealing displays make a difference in the amount of sales I receive.
I would love to hear what you think!
